A scorching qualifying session sees Danial Shahril going from the fourth row with Arbi Aditama close behind on his return.
Shahril led the Junior Talent Team’s charge ahead of Round 3 of the FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship. The Malaysian had gone directly through to Q2, navigating tricky conditions in the morning, to put himself in prime position for a strong weekend ahead. With the sun shining in the afternoon, the Asia Talent Team rider was in the mix and found improvements throughout the session to qualify P13.
Looking ahead to Sunday, Shahril will be aiming for a good start to put himself into the lead group and to continue building on the form from Estoril after an encouraging Top 5 finish.
The returning Arbi Aditama found a brilliant late last lap in damp conditions to put the #93 machine straight into Q2. But like Shahril, the Indonesian couldn’t progress further in the dry afternoon Q2 setting a best lap of 1:51.970 to put the Astra Honda Racing Team machine in P17. However, the Indonesian will take a back-of-the-grid start for Race 1 after a Q2 infringement. With pace to be fighting for points, Aditama will be aiming for two clean races as he dusts off the cobwebs after missing the opening two rounds.
Amon Odaki and Jakkreephat Phuettisan put in a spirited performance during Q1 but just missed out and qualified P24 and P30 respectively. The Thai and Japanese riders had their weekend curtailed by the weather, rain on Friday and Saturday morning gave both the Honda Racing Thailand and Asia Talent Team rider little dry running. However, both have shown great speed in their previous outings and will be hopeful for two clean races tomorrow and challenge for the points.
A day of exciting and brilliant action awaits at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with Race 1 of JuniorGP™ l start proceedings tomorrow at 11:00 (UTC+2), with Race 2 taking centre stage at 14:00.
