Junior Talent Team heading for Jerez

27 September 2018

Southern Spain is the next stop off for the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3™ Junior World Championship

The stunning Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto is the next destination for the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3™ Junior World Championship, with Andalusia ready to receive the Junior Talent Team at the classic track. It’s a legendary place to go racing, with the moniker ‘Cathedral’ a fitting one.

There are three rounds remaining for the Moto3™ field, and Jerez has another 50 points on the table with two races on Sunday. Yuki Kunii is the lead Junior Talent Team rider in the standings on 60 points in sixth, but he’s only six points ahead of teammate and compatriot Ai Ogura, who has 54 points. The two Japanese riders have a lot to gain as they both look for more consistency, but Ogura especially has proven his speed…and especially at Jerez. The youngster won his first FIM CEV Repsol Moto3™ Junior World Championship race at the venue in 2017, and he’ll want to repeat that feat.

Former Asia Talent Cup Champion Somkiat Chantra isn’t much further behind. With Kunii in P6 and Ogura six points behind in P7, Chantra maintains the pattern as he’s eighth overall – and seven points behind Ogura. The Thai rider was a consistent scorer until MotorLand, and last season at Jerez he took his best finish in Race 2. Gerry Salim was just outside the points at MotorLand and he’ll be pushing hard to get within that top 15.

British Talent Team rider Tom Booth-Amos is another who’ll want some points. With injury struggles but flashes of good pace, the Brit will be hoping Jerez is a little kinder – and that he can get a good finish on the board in Andalucia.

Race 1 begins at 11:00 (GMT +2) on Sunday, before Race 2 at 14:00 – both are 10 laps.
