Aragon awaits as track action resumes for two race days back-to-back at Motorland for Rounds 5 and 6
With five races under their belt in 2020, the Junior Talent Team are right in the thick of it as we approach the halfway point of the FIM CEV Repsol season. Just like in Jerez, three races over two race days offer a challenge and opportunity for progress in equal measure.
After a crash in Jerez, which saw him break his pelvis, Max Cook has been able to get back on the bike in the weeks leading up to Aragon and so heads to Motorland in the hope of picking up where he left off. After a strong start to the season, with a pair of 7th places in the opening two races, Cook was closing in on the leading pack before he crashed out of the first race in Jerez. Subsequently, he missed the two races the next day and so comes into Aragon in 12th in the standings, looking to make up some lost ground.
Just behind him is fellow Brit Scott Ogden who, after a DNF in the first race at Jerez, went on to take 11th and 10th places the following day, resuming his strong form from earlier in the season. After that, confidence is building for Ogden who will look to bridge the gap to the leading pack this weekend in Aragon.
Mario Aji’s weekend was cut short in Jerez after the Indonesian rider sustained fractures to three metacarpals in his left hand during the first qualifying session. Aji was forced to sit and watch from the sidelines alongside teammate Billy Van Eerde, who also sustained injury in Jerez. The Australian crashed at Turn 1 in the second qualifying session which resulted in a fractured left femur. It was a great shame for Van Eerde who was due to line up in P8, and he’ll sit this one out to focus on recovery.
Takuma Matsuyama, meanwhile, took a solid 12th in the 3rd race at Jerez, coming out on top in a four-rider battle. In the prior races, Matsuyama was unlucky to DNF in Race 1 and unfortunately stalled on the line in Race 2, but showed determination and strong pace throughout the race, two things he’ll be looking for again at Aragon. Thai rider Tatchakorn Buasri also raced valiantly as he continued his recovery from injury, managing to pick up two points in the first race and narrowly missing out on the points in the 2nd and 3rd races at Jerez. What can he do after a little more time to recover?
The JTT riders take to Motorland Aragon on Saturday 3rd of October for one race at 13:00 (GMT+2) and then follow that up with two races on Sunday 4th of October, with the first at 11:00 and the second at 14:00.
