In a Sunday to remember, a new name is added to the podium in JuniorGP™
The 2022 Finetwork FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship action at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto was frenetic and frantic from the start, and the JuniorGP™ class certainly brought prosperity to the Junior Talent Team. Whilst Race 1 showcased progress, Race 2 gave a career-first podium to Eddie O’Shea (British Talent Team) in one of many headlines from a thrilling day of racing for the JTT riders.
After two races without points in Barcelona, O’Shea was looking back to himself and despite not being able to take advantage of the cooler Race 1, the British rider still returned to the points-paying positions with a 15th place. However, Race 2 saw a majestic O’Shea come from more than five seconds back to join the battle for the podium. After being muscled out at the final corner, he crossed the line fourth but was promoted to third after a penalty for another rider. This was O’Shea’s first podium in the class, the fifth British rider to get on the rostrum in JuniorGP™.
In Race 1, whilst it was a big fight of five at the front, Tatchakorn Buasri (Honda Racing Thailand) took 13th after being pushed back through the order in the heat of the battle inside the top ten. It was a much better afternoon race for the Thai rider as when the temperatures climbed, the 22-year-old made moves towards the front and was in the podium battle until the very end. Less than three tenths off a second career rostrum, Buasri snatched fifth place, making it a double top five for the JTT and his third top five of the season.
The celebrating didn’t stop there as in Race 2, it was three JTT riders inside the top ten. Danial Sharil (Asia Talent Team) was in good form as the Malaysian aimed to bounce back after a DNF in Race 1. He did just that, tracking his way through the field with O’Shea before eventually cracking the top ten, finishing in tenth and less than a second off what would have been a career-first podium.
After showing great promise throughout the weekend, Indonesian Arbi Aditama (Astra Honda Racing Team) was unlucky to not to score points in Race 1 in 16th before crashing in Race 2. He’ll aim to bounce back and continue to learn in his quest for more points in JuniorGP™ at the next round at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal in two weeks.
